Would You Still Wear Bitcoin?
Nestled among the huge labyrinth catalog that includes everything from tarot card T-shirts to ridiculous data jokes, there's the set of shirts that bear the iconic Bitcoin logo, on its own or emblazoned on the front of a bronze coin.
It's part of our unique cryptocurrency line, but we’re wondering how many people still want to wear these T-shirts given where Bitcoin and its value are at right now. You kind of have to think about the context of BTC and what it means to “rep” it today.
The Context
The first Bitcoin block, the Genesis block, was mined by the anonymous Satoshi many years ago. Well, not that many years ago. Let's just say in the early years of the millennium…
Then Bitcoin was born. The coin price tugged along at $100 and $200 and then started to rise steadily. It hit $6500 a couple of years ago and stayed there for a while – then it kept rising!
Bitcoin hit its peak around covid Thanksgiving of last year and towered at over $60,000 per coin.
Right now, it's at about $23,000 per coin, so if you bought in at the peak, you have about one-third of your investment left.
Cue the sad trombone, right?
It leads people to be less than enthusiastic about the coin’s future. And that’s an understatement.
In fact, it leads a lot of people to say that cryptocurrency is dead entirely, but we’re still seeing this market developed and some of our more stoic diamond hands people are still wearing the Bitcoin T-shirts, thinking about the prognostications of folks like Anthony “the Pomp” Pompliano and other ebullient crypto phans.
So we’ll keep the BTC shirts in the catalog right next to Ethereum and Litecoin and Dogecoin designs and everything else and see what happens to the front running cryptocurrency as it tries to rebound from historic value cuts.
