The Inscrutable T-Shirt
When you look at some of our shirts, when you just glance at them in the catalog or see them around the street, it's easy to tell what they're talking about and what they mean.
Others are more ambiguous…
For example, take the Guy Fawkes T-shirt that's an iconic seller one season after another.
When someone's wearing one of these, you just see the mask with no slogan. So you don't know whether they’re an old-school British person who observes the traditional holiday, or whether they just like the movie ‘V for Vendetta,’ or whether they’re associated with Anonymous, or whatever.
Even something like a cute little lion with the word ‘Leo’ can be a little ambiguous. You assume that somebody's celebrating their astrological sign, but what if they're not a Leo? What if they’re a Sagittarius or Scorpio, or even, gasp, a Gemini, and they're just messing with you?
Some of our joke T-shirts are a little cryptic, too. If you look at someone who's wearing one and they smirk kind of strangely, you may be left wondering what they're trying to say with their T-shirt and their body language. And they haven’t actually said a word yet!
On the other hand, some of these T-shirts are real icebreakers. You walk up to somebody and they're talking a mile a minute, and they tell you the joke as soon as you get there, and you smile and say “oh yeah…”
Well, those are some social scenarios that happen when people are wearing our T-shirts. You may not think about this when you're ordering on the e-commerce store (or on the other hand you might spend a lot of time thinking about it and obsessing about the details of what you say to people when you meet them.) Everybody has their own process. We get it - there's all kinds of different people.
We have all kinds of different T-shirts, too, and that's putting it mildly.
