Julien Duvivier's silent adaptation of Jules Renard, billed on the poster as a comedie dramatique en cinq parties. Poil de Carotte, carrot top, is the red haired boy nobody in his own family can quite bring themselves to love. Renard wrote it out of his own childhood, which explains a good deal.
The poster is almost entirely black, with the title in pale yellow and one small lit figure at a desk. Very little happening on it, and all of it deliberate.
