1902. Georges Méliès sends a capsule full of astronomers to the moon and puts it straight in the moon's eye, and cinema has been chasing that image ever since. Known in English as A Trip to the Moon, made by his own Star Film company and shown at the theatre he owned in Paris.
This is the exhibition poster, all devils, dancers and fireworks, promising every evening at eight and a matinee on Sundays. Arguably the first science fiction film ever made, and still one of the best looking.
