The official flag of Nevada state is composed of a cobalt blue field with a variant of the state’s emblem located in the upper left-hand corner. The emblem has a silver star below which highlights the state’s name and it is about the state’s nickname - The Silver State.
Did you know that the first flag of Nevada was created by Governor John Sparks and Col. Harry Day in 1905? The design of the first flag was heavily based on Nevada’s natural resources of gold and silver. However, the current flag that you know today had its origin in a design contest back in 1926. The winning design was created by Louis Shellback III and was put through some revisions in the state legislature. In fact, there were some disagreements between the two houses over the positioning of the word “Nevada'' on the flag. Finally, in 1929, a settlement was reached when Governor Fred Balzar signed into law a bill adopting the new flag.
