The official state flag of Minnesota consists of an altered version of the seal of Minnesota on a blue field. The current flag was adopted in 1957 and was later on modified in 1983. The flag features the state seal in the center with a royal blue field and a gold fringe. There are three dates that are woven into a wreath of the state flower: first is 1858 which is the statehood year; second is 1918 which is the year Fort Snelling was established; and lastly 1893 which is the year the original flag was adopted.
The design and symbolism of the seal consist of a native American that rides on horseback in the background and it is said to have symbolized Minnesota's Native American heritage. The foreground features a farmer that plows a field, while his axe, gun, and powder horn rest on a stump. Meanwhile, the field and plow constitute the significance of agriculture.
